Middle school

Middle School is for children aged between 12-14 years (Classes 6-8)

In response to the demand for us to continue to offer excellence in education, we were delighted to expand our school in September 2012.

A ground-breaking project, we now offer children a purposeful progression in their learning from Class 6 to Class 8. This prepares children, not only for their move to other Steiner schools, but also for those who transition into mainstream schools too.

  • Building on the great foundations of Kindergarten and Lower School, the Middle School prepares the children for a smooth transition to whatever avenues of education lies ahead.

  • Pupils continue with the Steiner Waldorf Curriculum, but are also working with aspects of the National Curriculum, including Maths, English, Science and ICT.

“The quality of individual project work in Class 8 is outstanding.”

  • The work in the Middle School develops in rigour and challenge as the children progress. This coincides with the stage in child development where their intellect now fully engages and children are ready to meet the more demanding academic work that is required of them with enthusiasm and gusto.

  • At this time, we introduce the responsible use of computers. We teach children to be masters of their devices and not the other way around and to take a responsible approach to screen-time use, in keeping with all the latest research.

  • In their final year at the school, the children work on their Class 8 Project. This is a unique piece of work, which they plan, design and execute entirely by themselves. At the end of the year, there is an opportunity to present their work (and answer questions), to a receptive audience of family and friends.

“They are confident, articulate young people with high self-esteem who value both their own uniqueness and that of others.”
