AGES 6 - 12
The school follows the European model where formal education only starts when a child is developmentally suited at around age 6. By giving equal importance to the development of a child’s social and emotional life as to their intellectual abilities, Steiner education seeks to nurture the whole child within the framework of a structured curriculum. This interweaves English, Maths, Science, Music and Foreign Languages in an artistic and creative way. Subjects are taught in blocks called The Main lesson lasting for approximately two hours every morning for a period of four weeks allowing for in-depth study to take place. Subject lessons such as Handwork, Eurythmy (movement), Art, Drama, Woodwork, Music and Gardening are integral to the core curriculum. Ideally the teacher remains with the class for the whole of the Lower School years, forming a strong bond of trust, love and respect.
